I don't know about unique, it's a Twin leading shoe drum brake, (actually, come to think of it, it might even be a double sided one). Virtually all the bikes I have ever ridden or owned had spokes....

Could you post some pics of the cams and cam wheels so we can see the marks ? I would have thought it unlikely that you had non-standard cams, so shouldn't be a problem.
