Cool

Copied from Chapter 4:

"The biggest factor that affects your risk is speed. The odds are that a mishap at a lower speed will have fewer or less dramatic consequences than one at a higher speed. This means that your first consideration, under any circumstances, when confronting any hazard, real or imagined, should be to adjust your speed to minimize your risk.
Fortunately, this is a factor over which you have complete control. Go ahead and compare which is preferable:
  • Higher speeds increase the rate at which hazards approach.
  • Higher speeds increase the amount of traction you need to perform evasive maneuvers.
  • Higher speeds increase the severity of a crash by increasing the impact forces.
Braking hard is the simplest way to reduce your risk in a hurry. Not only do you buy yourself time and space to make your next decision, you lessen the severity and extent of injuries if you end up crashing."
