Sooo.... I'm curious... If you can't afford to move out, how are you going to afford a bike? And no one said you have to get room mates. Or the same room mates your friend had.
Honestly, I think your answer about moving out also answered your question about getting the bike. Maybe you need to re-evaluate your priorities... I know I have to from time to time...
