I think I only notice a slight slow down around 8000-9000 feet. Going over the Sierra is usually slow enough on those roads that its not that big of a deal to me. Never had an issue making it back and forth over any of the passes. I just downshift to match the grade and go. Monitor, Carson, Ebbetts, Sonora, and Tioga are my favorite roads because they are smaller and less used than Echo or Donner.
The only time I noticed a problem was trying to maintain highway speed over Monarch Pass (11,312') in Colorado, but so was everyone else. I just stayed in the slow lane and kept the throttle wide open.

You have a 300 which is I belive is fuel injected? Did you ride a 250 in similar areas prior?
