I learnt this the hard way. Well, almost the hard way. A corner I'd ridden many times at what I thought was a reasonable pace bore witness to me nearly t-boning an SUV pulling into a driveway I'd not realy noted was there; just out of frame on this grab from Streetview:


Luckily the driver didn't stop in a panic, and I managed to keep the bike upright during some fairly urgent braking while gently standing it up, missing his rear bumper by about a foot.

Complacency's a killer.
