Hence the solenoid is going bad, most likely it's not the battery because it's reading fine. The battery is on its 4th season, so it could be going as well, but the solenoid is a lot cheaper than a battery.
I'll be sure to report how it turns out.

Thanks Scott. Could the contacts in the solenoid just be dirty? Aw, probably best to just replace it anyway. You might not be able to get at the contacts to clean them anyway.
