I had a similar experience (about seconds slowing down) when a van was rammed from behind by a Toyota Vellfire.

The van was on the middle lane and the Vellfire was from the right lane trying to swerve to the middle. I was on the left lane (in Malaysia our driver seat is on the right side; which means the left side is for slow vehicle) enjoying my ride when suddenly i heard a loud bang and noticed the van was out of control and was heading directly to me. I had only one reaction in my mind which is to open up my throttle and which I did. The van hit the left road rail right after I made pass of it. That tiny difference which if i was a millisecond late, i would be crushed there too.
