Versys-X 300 Thoughts

So it's getting late in the year here & will soon be time to park my highly modified VFR800 for the winter, some overhaul & possibly some more mods.

I bought my 2001 ZZR250 to use as a winter bike, then to modify into a super mono, with a 400/600 single engine. But after riding it & discovering how much fun it was I decided to keep the stock engine. This lead to it to becoming highly modified & a big bore being engineered for it which I've not had time to fit yet, so maybe this winters main project.

Now I have some friends that used to do enduro & offroad adventure rides, but all are getting on a bit & like me have creaky joints. With my bad knees I've never been willing to join them or get an enduro bike for the very brief uses it would get if I did.

Then Kawasaki announced the Versys-X 300, which seemed like a perfect match to my needs in another bike. Which are a stock bike that I can do some green lanes or gravel roads on in the summer & double as a more upright riding position winter commuting bike with a bit of weather protection, that's able to hold a reasonable speed on the motorway & main roads. So I'm off to have a look at one in the flesh on Saturday & test the fit for my 6'1" frame.

Talking to the dealers, Kawasaki UK messed up & did not expect to sell many so never brought enough in, they didn't arrive until late August & most have been sold, with 2018 models not expected in country until Feb 2018 So I've found a standard one not to far away to have a look at but can't have a test ride But at least I can check it out. I'd like the Adventure model, but might not be able to get one until new stock arrives.

More when I've seen it in the flesh.
