Easier just to drop engine to take it apart. So much easier to reach head and cylinder bolts.
You're gonna swap it anyway. No way you can rebuild it for low enough to make it worthwhile. Used engines are plentiful. Just make sure you get from breaker with performance guarantee. Heck, some of them will do compression-test for you.
