try lowering it to the 4th position (richer) and see if that helps. there is some interaction between the pilot circuit and the needle position, so that might help the lean condition you seem to have.



check for air leaks... vacuum hoses loose, carb boot clamps tightened...

last, idle speed (I use 1500 rpm) should be set only after the bike is completely warmed up after 10-15 minutes of riding.

For cold starts, you need to use the choke to keep the RPMs up. Mine usually will start at 3000rpm with the choke on and I gradually decrease the choke lever input as the bike warms, until it can idle on it's own.
