I've had my pair of Icon leather gloves for a long time now (30k on the bike since i bought them) and I've yet to have them "fall apart". I've got an Alliance SSR (speedfreak) helmet from icon, but I prefer my HJC. My gf has a scorpion helmet, and it's by far the heaviest helmet we've got, and it's also the smallest size.
