Someone wedged a ex500 motor into an ex250 and it caused the lower fairing to spread a little. Imagine what an Inline 4 would do...
Anyway there is a reason they use thick perimeter frames for those inline 4s. They produce far more HP due to design than you get out of simply doubling displacement. An ex500 has somewhere near 50HP where as a modern 600 I4 has around 80-90. 100 extra CC's don't net almost double horsepower alone.
Based on what I have seen so far, the ex650 looks to be the largest engine that can be put into an ex250. But for what it would cost you are better off just getting an ex650.
