This is something you're warned not to do on the CTB (Compulsory Basic Training) course, perhaps something similar to MSF in the US.

A steel shoe would cut your toes off, and make even more harm then protection.

Den, this has been disproved but many different testing firms here in recent years. Basically what they found is that if your foot suffers enough trauma to crush the steel or composite section enough to actually amputate the toes, without that cap, you would lose the toes anyways. Also, newer designs in the steel toes flatten out across the board rather then just crushing straight down which caused the amputations.

I wear the Magnum equivalent. My current pair is not steel/composite toed since I don't need them that way anymore, but I have worn the steel/composite ones for past jobs where I rode to work all the time. Only boots that met the safety requirements for OSHA and still worked with a sport bike.
