Low-speed drop, minimal damage. Did he actually run over any part of the bike? Or just bump it over onto its side? If the latter, then parts to fix will probably run less than a grand. Fairings and bits are a lot more common on ebay and locally for this bike than for the pre-gens. Start hitting craigslist and ebay for used parts, work up a price, and present it to him. It's all bolt-on stuff so it'll be easy to fix. Make sure that the painted bits come from the same year bike so that the paint matches.
