Are Ignition Boxes a Common Problem

Hey All,

New to the forum here, but personally an old fart. I got a 92 250 that my father-in-law had big aspirations for but never got around too. It's been pretty neglected, but for the most part, the innards of the motor look pretty good.
Anyway, when I finally got the carbs and tank degunked and set the valves, I got good fire on the left cylinder but a very erratic spark on the right. I could hook my timing light up to the wires and see it was pretty shaky. It would only run on full choke and then it was the left cylinder just dragging the right against it's will. I swapped the coils from side to side with no change. I took the wire from the ignition box (green) out and ran a straight wire from the box to the coil with no help either.
I don't see a lot of posts on here about ignition boxes being bad. And also by the fact that you can buy them on ebay pretty cheap speaks volumes. Usually if it's a common bad part, the prices are crazy.

Thanks!
