To the OP - you can easily leave the bike in impound and walk away. BUT. 30 days after the original 30 days impound, your bike will be put up for auction. At that time, you will owe the yard the tow fee plus 60 (or more) days impound storage fees. Whatever they sell the bike for gets deducted from that total, but you're still on the hook for the leftover amount.
