I think a big concern is the cagers not being used to it, around where I live it is so common that people make extra room for you and watch for it. It would not be a unusual occurrence in summer to pull up to a light and have 2-3 other riders filter up next to you at one light. Even big touring bikes and fatboys ect do it around here.

If your looking to practice or just getting started it helps to be in the middle lane so you can choose the left or right side of the car ahead of you and start with stopped car at traffic lights first. Also be aware that the thing you will bump into is your bar ends on peoples mirrors and sports cars tend to be wider than trucks. at least the trucks mirrors are up high out of the way. I personally think slow moving traffic (25ish) is more dangerous than anything else people are more likely to jump over in a hurry to get the "better" lane without looking.
