Jiggles, I second the FZ6 as a possible choice. It won't have the peaky powerband of a SS, as it is tuned for torque and is meant for the street. The FZ6R probably isn't a bad choice, but the FZ6 is arguably the better bike, and should be less expensive to boot. The Ninja 1000 is probably a great choice. I'm debating getting a new bike myself, and if I do, I may get the Ninja 1000. I'm also looking at the Tiger 800.
I really want an R1 for that sound, but it wouldn't do me any good on the back roads I ride.

Ah ok, sounds like the FZ6 has a more appealing powerband. The Ninja 1000 is awesome, it just fits, the only thing I don't like is the lame ass exhaust and the fact that I'll get pretty crappy mileage lol.
