It replaces your ECU for the sake of adjusting the fuel to air ratio curve across the power band to allow the optimum mix for best performance.

It does this by being uploaded with a "map" which can be a stock fuel to air ratio curve or a custom one created by putting your bike on a dyno to determine a custom ratio based on your specific bike for best performance.

So, in a nut shell, it tells your fuel injector system to deliver more fuel, as typically your bike will run a little lean and will only get leaner "meaning it'll need more fuel for tye best mix ratio" with the more performance parts you add, like exhausts and air filters and snorkel.

Leo Vince also make an ECU for the Ninja 250 that does the same thing.
