I say make the trip and check it out, 1k is cheap. is a long trip but you don't want to be regreting it later if you are not happy with your other options.
By you posting about this makes me think that used bikes are hard to sell by owners unlike here in CA, take the time but do it asap and look at all of your options and decide which one is better for you. you'll spend time and gas but you should be happy with your choice
