I assume dragging the knee at any speed is just to know where your max lean angle is at, any more you lose traction. I can also see it saving a low side if you catch it fast enough like I read in a previous post someone had done. So based on what Greg wrote, if you know your limits on the bikes lean angle well a knee is just that little added tool to gauge things, but not always necessary.
