I would have preferred to have dropped mine in front of a 100 strangers. Instead, I did it at a stand still... in my driveway... while dismounting the bike and talking to my husband. Why did I drop it? Because that kickstand doesn't magically go down on its own. :/

Ah well, at least I was past my first month and 100 mile mark (which is the window I expected to do something so silly in).

Try not to beat yourself up too much, I'm told it happens to seasoned riders on occasion as well.
