Chris and CB, Thanks for the suggestions! I'll start looking for those bikes and see whats available.
I acquired some free bicycles that I've been fixing up to sell so that I can upgrade my mtb and road bike. Among them was a Specialized Hardrock that I straightened the wheels , fixed a flat and adjusted the deralleurs. It felt lighter than my GT Talera so I weighted them and found that the Hardrock was about 5 lb. lighter than my Talera. I'll try it out on my usual climbs to see if I like it. Still no suspension and no disc brakes.
