Depends on the size of the back protector. Some are more slim than others, and some cover more or less of your back. When you get to buying a back protector, check the CE rating, as some absorb way more impact than others.
I'm a fan of Forcefield and Tryonic, though I don't yet own the former. Even among these two brands, different models will take up different amounts of space.
