They fill up fast, but the MSF BRC here is funded by some grant, so it only costs $25. They supply the bike, so all you need is a DOT helmet, eye protection (sunglasses is enough), a long-sleeve shirt, and boots. Even if you have to go out and buy all that, it's probably still under $100. In addition to hopefully learning the basics of riding a bike and covering the skills portion of your license endorsement, it's a cheap way to at least get some idea if riding is your thing.

As others have said, people generally won't listen to advice until something makes them realize that it could be detrimental to not take the advice. Unfortunately, we tend to be stupid and stubborn, so it often takes something bad happening to us personally before we believe it could actually happen.

You should give good advice when you can, but it's impossible for you to make someone take your advice.
