How hard can you flog these bikes?

My 2003 has 4300 miles on it. It runs mint. Has new tires. Every maintenance item has been done. Anyway.. I shift normally at 8K. Yesterday I found myself shifting at between 10K and 12K many times. It seems to me that shifting around 8K is the perfect amount of RPMS. The clutch just slides into gear with little to know hesitation providing you match the RPMS as close as possible. Its almost like power shifting.
The other thing I notice is my bike feels the best when I am beating the snot out of it.. but that leads to the question.. am I or is what I am doing normal?

I have been riding for a long time but its a little hard to accept how great these motors are at the very high RPM range.

That leads me to another observation. A beginner rider with one of these bikes and after a few months they feel they have "graduated" up to a bigger bike is actually sad because most likely they have never even been over 6k rpms and the fun doesn't start until between 8K and 10K.
