I've been nailed with enough bugs, rocks, and other road debris, to remind me to keep the visor down. I'll raise it when stopped, and sometimes I'll ride with it cracked open a notch, but it's there for a reason. Even though I almost always wear sunglasses underneath, with the visor up there has been plenty of room for crap to hit my face and get into my eye.
A few years ago I had to make two trips to the eye doc within a few months to remove a small piece of metal that had gotten lodged in my eye (while riding with visor up for a moment, of course). After she chastized me appropriately the first time, I had to go back just a few months later for the same thing happening again.
