The ABS is optional which will most likely be another grand (I could be wrong...didn't read the fine details).
But you know what, Honda has always been a bit more expensive than the rest so you guys could be right. But if their marketing dept were smart they'd price it as competitive as the Ninja250R.
Remember the NSF100? A lot of people had interest in the bike until they priced it $5K and the interest was no longer there. $5K for a 100cc bike? A couple years passed and dealers were just trying to get rid of them and dropped the price to $3500. A huge mistake by Honda IMO cuz those things could have sold like hot pancakes if priced at a reasonably affordable price from the geckgo.
