Not using them otherwise allows the needles to "dance" somewhat within the retainers....essentially...unable to be properly retained....and could jeopardize the stability of the C-clip in the long term....wear would eventually occur.
From my stock, I've used these now on 500 and 250 applications where the owner chose to use jet kit needles.....I highly recommend their use.

Where do you get them? It's apparent you recommend the spacers whether or not you play with the jet needle height.
By the way, I highly recommend Loctite Super Glue "Professional" over Krazy glue Zap-A-Gap etc. Available at Lowes, Home Depot etc.
