The morning update:
Yes, it seems I can hear some whine when not moving.
I adjusted the CCT, and it didn't seem to do much. Oddly enough, however, it seemed like I had a bigger margin of error on the new engine between the CC rattling, and whining from being over-tightened.... the old one had a very narrow window.

Plan is to ride it and watch it for a day or two, assuming nothing gets worse, then change the oil. If this doesn't help, THEN I'll open the valve cover.
