Let me help you out.
Something Captain Obvious would say is a phrase so self-evident that it does not need to be spoken. Useless hot air. We all say them. Typically they elicit a "well, DUH!" once you think about them for a moment.
"My feet hurt" is not a CO statement because it doesn't pass that test.
"Don't go out in the rain, you'll get wet" has CO written all over it. Saying "wow, that must hurt" to someone who's just hit their thumb with a hammer is another one.

About two thirds of the posts in this thread aren't remotely close to things Captain Obvious would say.
