Maybe the inconsistency at highway speeds is because the 250 engine is working so hard to keep speed. This might be a case of the engine being under so much load and so many rpm's that it's not as efficient.
I still think quoting 65 average is pretty unrealistic. I'd say 50 or so for mixed riding is more realistic.
