[motorcycle.com] - BMW Sets Another Sales Record with 78,418 Motorcycles Sold in Firs

BMW announced sales of 78,418 motorcycles in the first six months of 2015, setting a new first half sales record. Frankly, it’d be news if BMW failed to set a sales record, as the German manufacturer has been on a roll the last few years. The momentum shows no signs of stopping, as BMW’s first half figures represent a 10.5% growth compared to the same period last year.

“Never before have we supplied this many vehicles to our customers,” says Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad head of sales and marketing. “With [an increase] of 10.5 % as of the first six months, we are well on track to set a new sales record at the end of this year.”

Topping BMW’s sales charts once again is the R1200GS with 14,099 units sold in the opening six months of 2015. The Adventure version was second with 10,429 units sold followed by the R1200RT at 6,471 and the R nineT at 5,868 units sold. BMW’s boxer sales will be bolstered in the second half as sales of the new R1200R and R1200RS hit their stride.

BMW’s inline-Four models aren’t doing too shabby, led by the S1000RR at 5,654 units and the S1000R (4,134 units). The recently-launched S1000RX should help BMW’s sales figures in the second half.

“Our powerful model portfolio and the reputation of the BMW Motorrad brand provide the basis for our increasing market success,” says Faust. “The new generation of water-cooled boxer models, our custom roadster and the family of sporty S models are creating a veritable surge in demand.”
