Most important is ride your own ride, ride within your limits, especially when your new and starting out.

Too many new riders have an accident due to they are pushing themselves too far/hard, especially is the case if your riding with a group of people, don't feel the need to keep up. Odds are if you have to try to keep up, then your at your limit, slow down and take your time, and just enjoy the ride. Hopefully they'll wait for you further down the road.

Whenever I ride with a group, I prefer to stay towards the back, and hang back , I feel a bit safer, and I can keep an eye on the newer riders. Especially if it's a group I've never rode with.
