Be observant.
Be assertive, but not aggressive.
Don't tailgate.
Watch for vehicles turning left in front of you (all three ways they can do it).
If you're behind a big truck or bus, the guy that's going to turn left in front of you will not see you.
Wear bright colored jacket and helmet.
Wear proper gear.
