That hole is empty on mine as well. Nope it isnt the source of your leak. There is a overflow tube from the airbox to that area that may be putting oil there. There is an airbox drain plug on the left side bottom. Put a catch tray of some sort there and pull the drain plug. A lot of oil came out of mine.
Otherwise, it could just chain lube that you are seeing.
