I bet this is issue with interlock switches. Take a look at these threads, it can become very lengthy process without testing properly:

Yeah no noise was coming from the bike when trying to start it but after the new battery I got it running. I'm concerned about the burning smell coming from the exhaust if anyone knows or can clarify if it's just the oil.
