In kart racing, immediately after the race you go right to the scales and need to make the minimum weight - kart, driver, fuel - everything.
We needed to fill the frame tubes and bolt lead weights in numerous locations to make weight. Having a light driver and being able to choose where you want the weight (to improve handling) can be an advantage.
As usual - lighter is better!

Correct, rider weight is not a factor. I think it should be but I'm also one of the heavier riders at 160lbs. I've spoke with FIM about that and we could see that change play a part later this season or maybe next. It was voted out last year but was close. I find it strange they're worried about 10lbs here and there per bike to level the field but not factoring in the difference in 30-40 lbs difference of riders. You take the two ktm guys for example, both whom are on identical bikes. One is sitting in at 115-120lbs and the other is 150-155. Turns into a situation where the heavier rider can't even draft up next to the lighter rider.
