You might be able to attach the straps to the underside of the seat. You just need to prevent front to rear movement. If you strap them together, left and right movement will only rotate the bag at most.
The fairings thing wasn't that bad. It's that had to take them apart over and over again because I did something wrong: seat wouldn't latch, missed some screws, etc. and I was getting hot.
