You don't have to take that risk. Leakdown test will give you condition of top-end. Used oil-analysis will tell you about bottom-end and costs only $28; tells tonnes about inside condition of engine.
It's $1-1.5k bike, and it can be a great deal or may require additional $1k to do engine-swap in 2-months. Sure, that's a relatively cheap repair, but for cost of bike + engine-swap, you can find better bikes out there. The UOA will tell you if it's a good deal or not.
