Old lead acid battery + power inverter + solar panel = good for road trips or living off the grid... To an extent. Maybe camping but I feel like that isn't camping if you bring THAT much of the indoors outdoors.

Brake pads, blast 'em with parts cleaner, scrape off the old pad and cut the metal into a rectangle/whatever shape and round off the edges. Then, with a steady hand and an engraving attachment on your dremel, make birthday cards or a keychain or something. I made sheet metal valentines a few years back. Everyone loved 'em.
