There is a old 2008 valve clearance thread by user "Vex" , mentioning the timing mark apparently being off too, similar to your situation ...found in a google search..

that's ok i looked at the 2008 manual. you bring ex on exhaust sprocket and count 36 pins over to in on intake sprocket. guess i need to do this to be sure
