Just in case you didnt end up grinding it, lowes sells hex nuts and nylon lock nuts which is what i included. The regular hex nuts are .060 thinner, which i think would give you the clearance you need. I just measured them now, since i also included lock washers there shouldnt be an issue using regular hex nuts.
