I'm in the same boat. Want the utility of a truck. Don't want to give up daily driving manners (read: not an old POS). Don't want to have a 20 ft long vehicle. Looking at the new Ranger and Taco's. Will likely start test driving in fall or spring 2019. Sigh. I hate dealerships. They make everything so painful.

The hard part is an early model current gen F150 with the EcoBoost 3.5L makes a great case for the dollar compared to a current mid size. Not much bigger with the crew can short bed. Bigger interior. More capacity. Same fuel mileage. Lots of giddyup on the skinny pedal. Cheaper (way cheaper) on the lightly used market. Still low mileage and lots of life left.
