Thanks Tony, I think you might be correct. The piston seems to be a little cruddy but generally OK, I don't really see any major damage aside from the rust. if it helps it had a bunch of solidified crud in there too, I think your theory about the no spark might be quite accurate. I wont get discouraged and clean it up and buy some rings and take it to my mechanic.
