I'm not sure how reasonable it is to swap/mod, but another item to look at is the wheel on the carb. The wheel on the throttle tube is like the front sprocket, the wheel on the carb is like the rear sprocket, and the throttle opening is equivalent to the wheel turning. You can make the final output faster by making the first one bigger or the second one smaller.

My '09 500 uses the exact same throttle tube part number as the later PreGens, so the carb wheel must be quite different to get the massive difference in action between the two bikes (my 500 is 1/4 turn).
