Not sure really. The carbs are the same except for the needles, and the jet sizes. The pregens actually have more advanced timing and larger main jets, which doesn't make sense either that pregens get better mileage.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is the different intake/exhaust timing that kawasaki did to beef up the midrange.
