With gas around $3.60 a gal right now:

2.7gal. x $3.60 = $ 9.72 Truck
.6gal. x $3.60 = $ 2.16 Bike

So I am basically spending $2.16 a day to save $ 7.56 a day.

$7.56 x 5days a week = $37.80 savings a week
$37.80 x roughly 25 days a month = $945 a MONTH!!$945 x 12 months = $11,340 a YEAR!!

Thats ALOT of saved money right there, i could almost buy 3 brand new ninjas with that kinda money in a year!! Well this makes me feel a little better about everything, but hope that answers your question jiggles
If you save $7.56 a day there is no way you would save $11K a year ($11K/$7.56=~1500 days) It would take you 7+ years to save that much if you just did your school commute. And if you are driving only to school approx 9 total months of the year not including breaks and summer you are doing that commute ~190 days per year. 190*7.56=$1,436. Add on your other trips and you obviously save more. So to @Jiggles point, even with the great gas savings it may take you 3 years to recoup your investment on the bike when you add in insurance, registration, etc.

You are spending $4500 to save ~$1500 per year.
