I just did some searching and reading. Looks like it would require about a 20%-30% increase in power generation capability to replace all gasoline powered passenger cars in the US with electric powered ones.

That's a pretty big undertaking in the next 12 years. The environmental impact statements would take that long to write. and they would have to increase the distribution network.
