I'm not sure of the circumstances of the loss, but it sounds like you're talking about subrogation.

Going through Progressive can save you a lot of hassle, though you will probably have to pay your deductible up front. Let Progressive deal with Geico, and as soon as it's all settled you should get your deductible back.
